7 days Exploring Merzouga and Zagora Desert from Errachidia

Day 1: Errachidia – Erfoud
Today is the first day of your “Exploring Merzouga Sahara Desert”. Our driver will welcome you at the airport and will leave for Erfoud. The first stop will be the panoramic view of the Ziz Valley. You will continue your way to the place of the valley to discover the Berber casbahs and the forest of the date palms as also the agriculture and breeding. We will also visit local cooperatives for handicrafts and products extracted from dates (Tahlaout). Upon arrival in Erfoud, you will visit the marble workshop knowing that the region is very well known for its fossils. You can also visit the souk of dates which exposes this fruit all the year and have an idea of the techniques of conservation of dates all the year. The night will be in a luxury hotel.

Day 2: Erfoud – Merzouga (visit the nomad tents and the Gnawa village)
After breakfast. You will continue your “Exploring Merzouga Sahara Desert” to the ancient imperial city of Morocco Rissani and the first capital of the Alaouite dynasty. An opportunity to admire its Kasbahs and historical monuments. You will also visit its souk which considers itself an economic center of the region and why not taste the local food a Berber pizza; a specific recipe of the region. Afterward, you will leave for the desert of Merzouga. Your next stop will be the village of the southern Gnawas, an opportunity to witness their dance and music and also to get an idea of their sub-Saharan origins while enjoying a glass of mint tea. Then, you will leave on camelback to a luxury bivouac to spend the night under nomadic tents. You will admire the beauty of the sunset on the tops of the dunes or from the top of the camels during your one-hour ride to the bivouac in the desert. After dinner under the stars, you will enjoy a Berber music show around a fire.

Day 3: Merzouga – nomad tents – Begaa village – Merzouga
After breakfast, you will go around the dunes by track. An adventure not to be missed is to explore the desert passing by the abandoned village of Mardani, then the mines of M’ifis, which are not far from the Algerian border. You will arrive at the village of Begaa, a small settlement of 30 houses that overlooks an oasis that has an irrigation system of Roman origin. You will take advantage of the cooking class to prepare and taste Berber pizza in the traditional oven at the inhabitant’s house. Not far from the village, you will visit the sharks’ teeth filan at the mountain “Aferdou” and get an idea about the dating of the geology of the region. At the end of the evening, you will return to your hotel in Merzouga

Day 4: Merzouga – Ouzina – Zagora
Today, you will leave towards the south by taking the tracks of the Paris-Dakar Rally. You will arrive at the mines and engravings of Taouz. Then, you will go down via the Ziz River to Ouzina. During the journey, you will stop at the nomad tents for tea under the nomad tent. The lunch will be in the village of Ouzina. Then you will continue towards Tafraoute via the desert of Oubahlou. The night will be in a riad in the black desert.

Day 5 : Tafraoute – Alnif – Todra Gorges
The alarm clock will be so early today to leave towards the gorges of Todra via Alnif and Tizi N’tfarkhine. You will stop at tourist places to take pictures and to visit. At the Gorges, you will make a small walk along the river and explore the Gorges with high cliffs. Many climbing enthusiasts practice their favorite sport. The night will be in a hotel in the gorge.
Day 6: Todra Gorge – Errachidia Airport for departure
Today, you will leave for Errachidia via Tinjdad and Goulmima for departure. This is the end of your Exploring Merzouga Sahara Desert.
