Trip from Marrakech: 7 days Sahara Desert tour

Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi N’tast – Taroudant
After breakfast, your “Trip from Marrakech” begins towards the Tizi N’taste pass. As soon as you approach the mountain, you cross the spectacular Moulay Brahim Gorges. Then, towards Asni, you will pass at the foot of the mountainous massif of Toubkal, the culminating point of North Africa. A stop is forced to the mosque “Tin Mel” to visit one of the historical monuments of the dynasty of Almoravides. You will cross the Tizi N’tast pass and descend to the Souss plain. You will stop for exceptional views of the valley for taking photos. You will continue towards Taroudant through Ouled Berhil. The night will be spent in a typical riad.

Day 2: Taroudant – Taliouine – Taznakht – Zagora
Today, you will start from Taroudant to Zagora. You will visit Taliouine the region known for natural saffron (the possibility to visit Safran products workshops of local associations). Then you will stop at the village of Taznakht, the region known for the manufacture of Berber carpets in the south. The next stop will be Agdez village in the middle of the valley of Daraa, Finally arrive in Zagora at night and will be at the hotel.

Day 3: Zagora – Tamagroute – Tazarine – Alnif – Erfoud
Today is the 3rd stage of our “Trip from Marrakech”. After breakfast, you will take a tour of the underground village TAMAGROUTE to see the workshops on traditional pottery. You will visit the magnificent library created in the 17th century where are preserved manuscripts of the Koran illuminated, written on gazelle skin, and books of history and medicine. Then you will go to the city of Erfoud crossing the Tizi N’Dra pass to Tazarine and Alnif where you will have lunch. After, you will continue to the city of Erfoud where you will spend the night in a hotel.

Day 4: Erfoud – Rissani – Careers of the fossils – Merzouga
After breakfast, you will make a short visit to the city of dates then you will go to the city of Rissani. It is the economic center of the region and the former imperial city of Morocco (named Sijilmassa). Lunch will be a special recipe for the region (PIZZA Berber). After visiting some historical monuments, you will start the fossil quarry. The region of fossils used for the manufacture of marble. In addition, at the end of the day, arrive in Merzouga where you will spend the night in an inn at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Day 5: Merzouga
This trip is the most important of the Trip from Marrakech: a camel trip to spend the night in the bivouac in the dunes under the nomad tent and visit the village of Gnawa. After breakfast, you will go around the dunes in 4 × 4 to visit the tents of nomads and oases in the desert and have an idea about their way of life. Then visit the village of Khamliya slaves to attend the dance and music of the South Gnawa (the former slaves of the Sultan of Marrakech in 1590).

You will take a walk in the oasis at the foot of the dunes to get an idea about the irrigation system of Roman origin “Khattarat”. Then visit the flamingo lake and in the afternoon, you will go on a camel to spend the night at a camp tent nomad in the dunes of Erg Chebbi.

Day 6: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Dades Gorges
The alarm clock today will be early to witness the sunrise and enjoy the silence of the desert. After breakfast and shower, your tour continues to Todra Gorge in Tinghir. You will discover the trails of the High Atlas and Berber villages. You will enjoy panoramic views. If time permits, you will go for a walk in one of the most beautiful palm groves of Morocco sheltering villages of mud and kasbahs uninhabited.

The Lunch will be under the majestic Canyons of Todra where several stuntmen exercise their sport. In the afternoon, you will continue your journey to the Dades Gorge crossing the road of the thousand kasbahs. Dinner and overnight will be at a local guesthouse or hotel.

Day 7: Gorges Dades – Kalaat M’gouna – Sekoura – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
Today, we continue our “Trip from Marrakech” to Marrakech to enjoy the panoramic views of the Dades Valley. You will pass by Kalaat M’gouna, the city renowned for planting roses, and its annual rose festival in May. We will reach by then the Sekoura Oasis.

At this place, you will discover the architecture of the fortifications and Kasbahs and especially that of Amredil. An occasion to unveil the secrets of the way of life of the Berbers who live in the oases. Lunch will be in Ouarzazate. Finally, you will continue to Marrakech via the Tizi N’tichka pass. This is the end of your tour in Morocco today. The Trip from Marrakech services finishes today.
